REZONING OF RESIDENTIAL LAND IN LAKE CARGELLIGO
Published on 06 February 2025
Lachlan Shire Council is happy to announce that an important step has been taken toward the provision of additional residential land for Lake Cargelligo in the future. On 17 January 2025, following approval from the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, approximately 45ha of land at 1 McInnes Street, Lake Cargelligo, was rezoned from Rural to Village zone. The land is located between the Lake Cargelligo Hospital and the Airport.
The rezoning means that there is now additional land available for residential development in Lake Cargelligo. This provides the opportunity for future housing growth.
The Lachlan Local Housing Strategy endorsed by Lachlan Shire Council in April 2024 identified the need for housing for up to 70 people by 2030 in Lake Cargelligo. This rezoning will assist in ensuring a range of housing options are available up to and beyond 2030.
Mayor of Lachlan Shire, Councillor John Medcalf OAM, said that the site at 1 McInnes Street could eventually provide over 200 residential lots. “This is a significant step toward providing more homes in Lake Cargelligo. It is early days, but Council can now start work to develop a masterplan for the staged subdivision of the land.” Councillor Medcalf concluded.
