Lachlan Shire Council and the Central NSW Joint Organisation (CNSWJO) are urging businesses across the region to take full advantage of Fuel Tax Credits (FTCs) as diesel prices remain significantly higher in regional and remote areas. This initiative is important for councils and businesses aiming to offset fuel costs, particularly given the significant transportation and infrastructure challenges that contribute to elevated prices in these areas.

CNSWJO has been conducting thorough reviews to ensure that councils receive their full FTC entitlements. With changes introduced by the Australian Taxation Office over the past few years, there is now an opportunity to retrospectively claim missed credits from the last four years, providing a valuable financial benefit to councils and businesses.

‘The CNSWJO Board is concerned about the price of diesel and that not all businesses may be fully accessing their available diesel tax rebates, which can significantly offset the excise tax or customs duty paid on diesel used for machinery, equipment, heavy vehicles, and off-road activities. By maximising FTCs, businesses can better manage their budgets and reduce overall fuel expenses,’ said Greg Tory, General Manager of Lachlan Shire.
