Work will commence soon on the Lake Cargelligo Foreshore Restoration and Resilience project. The project is funded through the Community Assets Program 2024. This program is enabling the repair, restoration or betterment of community infrastructure that was damaged by the floods in the Central West in August and September 2022. The Community Assets Program is jointly funded by the Australian Government and the NSW Government under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Work will commence in February on replacement of the footpath along the foreshore from the sports ground to the Apex Park boat ramp, as shown on the attached map. A total of 720 meters of the existing asphalt footpath will be replaced with a more resilient construction. The project will also include the restoration of erosion and repair of vital irrigation infrastructure.

Lachlan Shire Mayor, Cr John Medcalf, OAM, said “I’m happy to announce that replacement of the pathway is about to commence. I am excited for the community of Lake Cargelligo who will benefit from this much needed work.

“The new pathway will be 2.5-metre-wide reinforced concrete which will be suitable for walkers and cyclists to share. It will enhance access to the lake foreshore for visitors and locals, enabling people to safely walk or cycle along this beautiful waterway.” Mayor Medcalf concluded.

Minister for Agriculture, Regional NSW and Western NSW Tara Moriarty said the Community Assets Program is helping ensure disaster-impacted communities across the Central West can rebuild with strength and resilience.

“By investing in the restoration of the Lake Cargelligo Foreshore, the Australian and NSW Governments are safeguarding key community spaces against severe weather,” Minister Moriarty said.

“This will mean Lake Cargelligo has enduring infrastructure that will continue to serve locals well into the future.”

Contractors are due to commence on Monday, 17 February 2025 and it is expected that the work will take up to eight weeks to complete. If the weather is favourable, the new pathway should be completed ready for the Easter break.

During the work, detours and signage will be in place for the safety of workmen and the public. We ask the community to use caution and remain safe while work is underway. You can do this by keeping clear of exclusion zones and following all safety instructions if using the foreshore during this time. We apologise for any inconvenient the replacement work may cause, but we look forward to this exciting enhancement to the beautiful foreshore of Lake Cargelligo.
