Published on 30 January 2023
Last Thursday morning a crowd of over 150 people from across the shire gathered at the Condobolin SRA Pavilion for a hearty breakfast and great coffee before the commencement of the official Lachlan Shire Local Australia Day Award and Citizenship Ceremony.
As the event moved to a more formal mode, Marion Packham delivered the Welcome to Country, the Galari Bila Waga Dhaanys Dance Troupe performed, local talent Mhegan McDonald led the Australian National Anthem, and Lachlan Shire Australia Day Ambassador Carolyn Mee, Founder and CEO of Sound Scout captivated the crowd with her Australia Day address.
Lachlan Shire Council Mayor, Cr John Medcalf OAM said, “this year it was terrific to see such a strong field of award nominations, and so many people at the event. Australia Day is a great opportunity to publicly recognise our locals for their contributions to the community and their achievements, and last Thursday we also welcomed nine new Australian citizens.
The Lachlan Shire Local Australia Day Award recipients for 2023 are:
- Citizen of the Year - Karen Tooth
- Young Citizen of the Year - Rachel Grimmond
- Environmental Citizen of the Year - David Matheson
- Australia Day Award for Community Service - Bonita (Bonnie) Gwyn
- Event of the Year - Tullibigeal Melbourne Cup Tour Visit
- Sportsperson of the Year - Coden Stenhouse
