Major Mitchell Park - Condobolin

Named after Major Thomas Mitchell, Surveyor General who discovered the site of Condobolin on 4 April 1836. Condobolin was proclaimed on 30 November 1859 and gazetted on 2 December 1859.

The exploration party camped at the junction at Goobang Creek and the Lachlan River, then continued down the Lachlan, crossing over the site which the town of Condobolin subsequently spread. A monument has since been erected to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the settlement of Condobolin (1859 - 2009).
