Lake Cargelligo Water Tower Mural

No visit to Lake Cargelligo is complete without viewing the amazing water tower mural painted in March 2022 by well- known artist Heesco Khosnaran with assistance of Erin Haywood and Damien Mitchell.

The decommissioned water tower has come to life and attracts visitors from around the globe.

The mural was commissioned by Lakes Alive Progress Association Inc. and funded under the Foundation for Regional and Rural Renewal Tackling Tough Times Together program.

The mural captures the community’s history and the current day.

  • The red, black and yellow earth colours around the top section feature two birds found in area, facing south is, Lophophora Leadbeater also known as the Red Cockatoo/Wee juggler and facing north west is the rare Red-lored Whistler.
  • A team of twenty bullocks pulling ninety bales of wool – 1952.
  • The street scene of Foster Street – early 1900’s
  • The horse drawn water cart in the lake provided water for the residents at 2/- (two shillings) a load.
  • A Douglas DC3 aircraft which provided a goods and passenger service
  • The RAAF Hercules uses the Lake Cargelligo dirt landing strip for night practice.
